The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has taken a major step toward transforming daily urban travel in India by partnering with Airtel Payments Bank to launch new co-branded RuPay On-The-Go Cards for commuters. Announced during a special event at the Delhi Metro headquarters, the initiative is expected to make travel across public transport systems faster, smoother, and completely cashless for millions of passengers.
The newly introduced cards are linked to the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) network, allowing travelers to use a single card for metro rides, buses, and other transit services across multiple Indian cities.
The move is being seen as a significant upgrade for regular metro users who currently rely on the existing 'One Metro' cards, which are limited to the Delhi Metro network. With the new NCMC-enabled cards, passengers will no longer need to carry separate travel cards for different transportation systems. The cards will be offered in both debit and prepaid payment formats, giving commuters greater flexibility while traveling.

According to DMRC officials, the initiative strongly supports the Government of India's ambitious 'One Nation, One Card' vision aimed at creating a unified mobility payment system nationwide. The cards are expected to improve convenience for daily commuters while also promoting digital payments in public transportation.
DMRC's Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications, Anuj Dayal, confirmed that the cards will be available at all Delhi Metro stations within the next 10 days. Travelers will also be able to recharge them online through the DMRC app and the Airtel Thanks app, reducing the need to stand in long recharge queues at stations.
While existing MetroCards will continue to function normally, DMRC hopes more passengers will gradually switch to the smarter and more versatile NCMC travel cards in the coming months.
