India is observing Indian Air Force Day 2026 today, October 8, marking the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The occasion commemorates the establishment of the IAF on October 8, 1932, and recognises the service and contribution of its air warriors over the decades.
This year's Air Force Day is being observed under the theme “Indian Air Force – Infallible, Impervious and Precise”, highlighting the force's focus on operational preparedness, resilience and precision. The IAF has continued to strengthen its capabilities through military exercises, technology integration and operational training.
The anniversary also comes with a major public aviation event planned in Varanasi, giving visitors and aviation enthusiasts an opportunity to witness an Indian Air Force aerial display against the backdrop of the Ganga.
“The aerial display will offer citizens and visitors an opportunity to witness the precision, professionalism and coordinated teamwork that define the Indian Air Force.” -Wg Cdr Debartho Dhar, Spokesperson and Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, India
The Indian Air Force Aerial Display 2026 is scheduled to take place at Namo Ghat in Varanasi in October. The event will also highlight the six-decade journey of the Central Air Command and its contributions to combat operations, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and support to civil authorities.
According to information released by the Ministry of Defence's public relations office, the aerial display is intended to bring people closer to the Indian Air Force while showcasing its capabilities and service traditions. The event is also expected to encourage young citizens to learn more about aviation, defence and the different roles performed by the IAF.
For travellers visiting Varanasi, the event adds another attraction to the city's October calendar. Namo Ghat, located along the Ganga, is expected to provide a distinctive setting for the aerial display. Visitors will be able to experience the aviation spectacle while also exploring one of India's major cultural and spiritual destinations.
Authorities are making arrangements around the venue ahead of the event. A report published today said the administration is preparing security, cleanliness, river-safety and crowd-management measures around the ghats. Authorities have also announced preventive measures to reduce the risk of bird strikes during the aerial display.
The 94th Indian Air Force Day therefore combines the commemoration of the IAF's long service history with a series of public-facing activities that connect aviation with India's cities and destinations. For Varanasi, the upcoming aerial display is expected to bring additional attention to the city as residents and visitors gather along the Ganga to witness the event.
As the Indian Air Force marks 94 years, the celebrations highlight both its longstanding role in national service and its continuing evolution in aviation, technology and operational preparedness.
