Majuli (Assam): Located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, Majuli is also known to have the world's largest river island. The place is famously known for its Sataras that have been disappearing slowly for the past few years due to constant floods and land erosion. Majuli once has 65 Sataras and the number has reduced to 22 at present. Apart from its scenic beauty, Majuli presents a rich culture with very good natured and hospitable people. They have cultural exhibitions that show the traditions of these people, the variety of food they eat and their art and culture. UNESCO is considering Majuli to be one of the places under the World Cultural Heritage sight and the Indian government is trying hard to save this place from the destruction of the Brahmaputra.
