The New Delhi Railway Station (station code NDLS), in Paharganj is the main railway station in Delhi. New Delhi railway station is considered as the third busiest and one of the largest in India. It handles over 300 trains and 500,000 passengers daily with 16 platforms.The station handles over 300 trains in a day and one can only imagine the kind of infrastructure it entails. To make the check-in quicker, the police check your bags and all bags go through the X-ray machines. This station has 16 platforms between the Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj entrance connected by bridges. During the Commonwealth Games, this station was renovated and new buildings were erected at the entrances and the insides too were renovated and escalators were installed.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, formerly known as Victoria Terminus Station, in Mumbai, is an outstanding example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture in India, blended with themes deriving from Indian traditional architecture. The building, designed by the British architect F. W. Stevens, became the symbol of Bombay as the 'Gothic City' and the major international mercantile port of India. The terminal was built over 10 years, starting in 1878, according to a High Victorian Gothic design based on late medieval Italian models. Its remarkable stone dome, turrets, pointed arches and eccentric ground plan are close to traditional Indian palace architecture.

Going ahead with its ambitious high-speed train proposal, Railways have joined hands with Japan to begin the ground work to reduce travel time by half on the Delhi-Mumbai corridor.Railways will procure a new set of trains with electric locomotives to run on the existing Delhi-Mumbai track.
